Luggage labels with the printer abbreviations shown on the labels
(H-C. Co; H & C Ltd; and H, C. & G.Limited)
I am a researcher and collector of railway ephemera, especially railway tickets and luggage labels, and part of my research into these involves identifying who the printers were of the items and consequently finding out information on the history of the printers.
One printer that I am having difficulty finding information on is Haycock-Cadle Co of Camberwell. This company subsequently became Haycock Cadle & Graham Ltd.
Through a search of the internet I have come across numerous posters and other printed items referenced to these companies and the specific items of railwayana that are identified to these companies are luggage labels printed for the Great Northern Railways and the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway from the period between 1915 and 1920.
This company appears to have printed these labels as a result of the railways previous printers (Waterlow and Sons) being unable to print the labels during this time for some reason still unknown.
Q I will be very interested and appreciative of any information that members or visitors may be able to provide of this company.
