Engraved Labels

Q In manuscript on verso is 16.12.96 which might be an 18th century
date ? “Lute String” is a glossy silk fabric and “Imperial” is a measurement of paper which make an unlikely pairing.
Size: 160 x 35mm (6¼ x 1¼in).
Can anyone offer a more likely original use for these finely engraved labels?
